Truck hits ambulance in Quezon; 4 dead

TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon, Philippines — Four persons died and three others were injured when an ambulance collided with a 10-wheeler truck along the highway in Barangay San Vicente in this town yesterday.

Ambulance driver Melchor Escandor and his passengers Jocelyn Espadero and Silvestre Camposanto were declared dead on arrival in a hospital. Aljon Gime, 12, died while being treated in the same hospital.

The other ambulance passengers – Nigel Gime, 8; Lanie Escandor, 43, and Rose Ann Espineda, 30 – remain confined at the Maria L. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital.

Initial investigation showed the accident occurred when the truck, which was heading north, was swerving to the opposite lane.

The front of the two vehicles were destroyed due to the impact of the crash.
