PCSO exec’s slay: P1 million reward offered
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Military Academy (PMA)’s Matikas Class of 1983 has raised a P1-million reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects in the murder of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board secretary Wesley Barayuga.
Barayuga, a retired general, is a member of the PMA Class of 1983.
The PMA said it offered the cash reward as Barayuga’s case had gone cold despite efforts by police investigators.
Those with information can call Matikas Class members at 0921-6540715 or 0967-3155108.
“The cash reward will be given not later than one month after the arrest of the suspect or suspects in the killing. All reward claims must be in writing and must be received in person,” PMA Class 83 said in a statement.
Among Barayuga’s classmates in the PMA is former Armed Forces chief and Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año.
According to the PMA, Barayuga was instrumental in cleansing the roster of small-town lottery operators. STL replaced the illegal numbers game jueteng in Central Luzon and masiao in the Visayas.
Baryuga, 61, was on his way home when he was ambushed by a motorcycle-riding gunman in Mandaluyong City on July 30.
City police chief Col. Hector Grijaldo Jr. said they have yet to obtain leads on the people responsible for the killing.
“We still have no witnesses who can identify the primary suspect,” Grijaldo said in a phone interview.
