Town exec killed in ambush

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines — A municipal councilor of Guindulungan town in this province was killed in an ambush by unidentified assailants yesterday morning.

Morsid Lauban died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Lauban was in a pickup with two others on board when the assailants opened fire at them at the border of Guindulungan and Talayan towns.

Lauban’s companions were wounded in the attack. They were rushed to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Lauban was on his way to the municipa hall when he and his companions were attacked, according to Mayor Midpantao Midtimbang Jr.

“I condemn this atrocity. We are hoping for a prompt action on this by authorities,” Midtimban said.

He urged authorities to solve the killing and give justice to the family of the victim.

“Our local government unit will cooperate in the investigation,” Midtimbang said.
