DPWH: Sevilla Bridge now open

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Sevilla Bridge in San Juan is now open to vehicular traffic, Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced yesterday.

The four-lane bridge, which crosses San Juan River, connects Shaw Boulevard in Burol, Mandaluyong and P. Sanchez street in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The bridge reconstruction project, which is a partnership with San Miguel Corp., involves a 56.76-linear-meter single span with a total width of 19.40 meters composed of a 1.5-meter sidewalk (northbound and southbound) and a 1.1-meter center island.

Following its closure in March, the bridge was repaired to give way to the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 project and eventually improve the flow of water at San Juan River.

“Now that the Sevilla Bridge is open to the traveling public, it should help decongest traffic in Metro Manila and benefit at least 8,000 motorists daily,” Villar said.

The DPWH said the lanes of the bridge going to Shaw Boulevard from Mandaluyong were opened on June 26, a week after the opposite lanes were completed. – Richmond Mercurio, Christian Imperio
