P6.3 million marijuana seized in CAR

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines  – At least P6.3 million worth of marijuana bricks were seized from three persons who attempted to slip through a checkpoint in Bontoc, Mountain Province on Saturday night.

Noli Navales, Wilfredo Magbanua Jr. and Mary Grace Lunas, all of Dasmariñas, Cavite, were in a Mitsubishi Mirage that was pulled over at a checkpoint in Barangay Samoki.

The suspects reportedly tried to take the Bontoc-Banaue road when they were intercepted at the checkpoint, according to Gil Castro, chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordilleras.

During inspection, police reportedly discovered 53 marijuana bricks in the suspects’ car.

Authorities are verifying the documents such as authority to travel, medical certificates and quarantine passes that the suspects used in travelling from Cavite to the Cordilleras.

Aside from drug cases, the suspects may be charged for quarantine breach, police said.
