MMDA to place hazard markers on EDSA
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will place hazard markers along EDSA following reports of vehicular accidents involving concrete barriers.
MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago yesterday said at least 18 accidents, mostly “self-accidents,” involving barriers in various areas of EDSA were recorded from June 1 to 19.
The agency placed barriers to mark the bus lane during the general community quarantine.
The list of “barrier-related incidents” involved a van that overturned after hitting the barrier along EDSA northbound near Guadalupe bridge on Thursday night.
Driver Dennis Ortiz admitted to being drunk, the MMDA said.
Another “self-accident” involved motorcycle rider Bernardo Ochoa, who was thrown off his vehicle, hitting his head on a concrete barrier along EDSA southbound in Mandaluyong on Friday night.
Ochoa was speeding on a wet road, MMDA traffic chief Bong Nebrija said.
Nebrija said it is unfair to blame the barriers for the accidents, noting that these are visible with reflectorized flaglets.
