Ex-Basilan vice mayor slain

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A former vice mayor of Tipo-Tipo, Basilan was shot dead in Isabela City on Tuesday night.

Sumuddik Mande, a resident of Barangay Menzi in Isabela City, was driving his motorcycle when he was shot by unidentified men on another motorbike in Barangay San Rafael, Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, Zamboanga peninsula police director, said.

Mande fell from his motorcycle and died at the scene.

The assailants escaped toward Barangay Sumagdang.

Responding police officers recovered a bullet shell from a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.
