Bilibid raid: Gadgets, appliances seized
MANILA, Philippines — Police swooped down yesterday on the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City where they confiscated electronic gadgets and appliances smuggled into the NBP by the inmates.
Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), together with Bureau of Corrections personnel and other government agencies, conducted “Oplan Galugad” or search and seize operation in sectors 2 and 3 of the maximum security compound.
Seized from the inmates were television units, electric fans, electronic tablets, smart phones and other contraband such as knives, NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas said.
Sinas said they were able to confiscate only seven cell phones compared to previous operations that yielded dozens of electronic gadgets.
The prison cells of high-value convicts did not yield any contraband, he said.
“The inmates could have been informed in advance about the raid,” Sinas said.
