Drug-crazed man holds child hostage

MANILA, Philippines — A man believed to be hooked on drugs allegedly took his nine-month-old daughter hostage for four hours in Pasig City on Saturday.

Joseph Baradia, 38, was with his child when policemen arrived at their house in Barangay Pinagbuhatan at around 3:40 p.m.

Police arrested Baradia after his partner complained that he held their daughter hostage since 11 a.m. without food and water.

Baradia’s partner and relatives sought police help after the suspect threatened to hurt the child.

Probers said the suspect was allegedly caught in the act of sniffing shabu. 

Baradia allegedly yielded 0.11 grams of shabu.

The suspect is being held by police on charges of violating Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Law and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

In Mandaluyong City, a barangay  peacekeeping officer and a security guard were nabbed for alleged possession of shabu.

They were Ramon Solero, 29, a peacekeeping officer of Barangay San Jose, and Floyd Granada, 32.

Police said they were conducting routine patrol in the area when they spotted Solero and Granada.

Authorities said they recovered from the suspects shabu and marijuana.

P2 million shabu seized in sting

Meanwhile, in Las Piñas, over P2 million worth of shabu and several ammunition were recovered from a suspected pusher who had gone big-time.

Daniel Biñegas Fernandez allegedly yielded around 300 grams of shabu during a sting in a car along Rosendo street in Barangay Pulang Lupa 2.

Fernandez and his cohort, Edgardo Enriquez, allegedly sold a kilo of shabu to a policeman who posed as a buyer.

City police chief Col. Segundo Lagundi said when the suspects sensed that they were dealing with police, Fernandez sped away and crashed into a house.

Three persons were injured in the accident, police said.

Enriquez eluded arrest.

In Quezon City, drug suspects Dennis Ofilada, 24, and Larry Dagdagan, 43, were nabbed in a sting in Barangay Tandang Sora. – With Ghio Ong, Romina Cabrera
