5 dead in Metro Manila shootings

MANILA, Philippines — Five persons were killed in separate shootings in Quezon City, Pasay and Caloocan since Monday.

In Quezon City’s Barangay Gulod, two unidentified men shot tricycle driver Bannul Abbie, 40, at the corner of Belen and Eleuteria streets at around 7:44 p.m. He died at the scene.

John Roeza Fermillan, 16, was walking home when he was hit by a stray bullet in the back. He died on the way to the Novaliches General Hospital, police said.

Five bullet casings and a deformed slug from firearms of unknown caliber were recovered at the scene.

In Barangay Holy Spirit, Lourdes Nocum-Gabatlao, 55, was walking along Samonte street when she was shot by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at past 6 p.m.

Gabatlao’s son and neighbors brought her to the East Avenue Medical Center for medical treatment but she was pronounced dead at around 6:37 p.m.

Probers found a bullet casing and a deformed slug at the scene.

In Pasay, Butchoy Arevalo was shot dead while his companion Jonie Masagca, 24, was wounded by unidentified assailants at around 1:50 a.m. yesterday as they were walking along Taft Avenue near its intersection with Menlo street.

Eric Tiguman, 44, was driving his pedicab when a motorcycle-riding assailant shot him along San Vicente Ferrer Road in Barangay 178, Caloocan City at past midnight yesterday. He had no record of drug use, indicating the killing could be personal, police said.

Police have yet to establish the motive for the killings.
