FDA recalls infant milk formula

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned mothers against feeding their babies with a recalled infant milk formula.

In an advisory, the FDA reported that Mead Johnson Nutrition voluntarily recalled a batch of Lactum instant formula for zero to six months from the market.

The FDA said Lactum batch Number PL9GDL5B was recalled because the product contains Lactum infant formula for six to 12 months.

“There was a discrepancy between the product marked in the storage and the actual product,” the agency said.

The FDA said intake of such milk may cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance among babies due to wrong formulation.

“There is a greater risk for infection among infants under two months as the milk formula does not require verification testing and ingredient control for Cronobacter spp,” the FDA said.

The agency said the recall covers only the product with batch Number PL9GDL5B. No other Mead Johnson products are affected by the recall.

Consumers who may have purchased the recalled product are advised to contact Mead Johnson for replacement or call the FDA for inquiries.
