Cut power cable disrupts MRT-3 operations

MANILA, Philippines — Operations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 have been suspended Friday morning due to a power supply shortage.
The Department of Transportation suspended all operations of the train line at 6:42 a.m. after a catenary cable in Guadalupe station was cut off. The cable supplies electricity to the train.
This has resulted to insufficient power supply from Shaw Boulevard to Santolan stations, according to a report from The STAR.
More or less 7,000 passengers were unloaded after the MRT-3 operations were suspended.
Meanwhile, the DOTr has deployed additional buses through the DOTr Railways Sector, i-ACT, MMDA and the LTFRB to attend to the stranded passengers from North Avenue to Ayala Avenue.
The DOTr is aiming to achieve provisional service between North Avenue and Shaw Boulevard stations by 12 p.m.
Full service is expected to resume between North Avenue and Taft Avenue stations by 5 p.m.
"After restoring full operations, MRT-3 will conduct an investigation to determine how the overhead catenary cable could have been cut," the DOTr said in a statement. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
