Cops kill Subic rape suspect

SUBIC, Zambales, Philippines — A suspect in the rape and murder of a factory worker at the Subic Bay Freeport on Aug. 20 was killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in Pampanga yesterday.

Samuel Vergara shot law enforcers serving  a warrant at his hideout in Barangay Camachilles in Mabalacat town, according to a police report. 

Carmela Catindig was found dead in her room. Her bodybore 38 stab wounds. Vergara also reportedly took Catindig’s cell phone and P30,000 in cash.

Police said Vergara was also tagged in robberies at a gasoline station in Angeles City, a remittance company in San Felipe and courier service provider in Olongapo City.
