More evacuation centers to rise in Zamboanga

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The government is fast-tracking the construction of four evacuation centers in the Zamboanga peninsula to accommodate more families displaced during disasters.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently turned over three evacuation centers in the town of Labason and Dipolog City, both in Zamboanga del Norte, as well as in Imelda in Zamboanga Sibugay.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said they are fast-tracking the construction of similar facilities in Zamboanga City as well as in the towns of Labangan and Dinas, both in Zamboanga del Sur, and Siocon in Zamboanga del Norte.

The centers will be equipped with wheelchair ramps, railings, infirmary, laundry and drying rooms, as well as separate toilets for male and female.
