MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has acquired P784 million worth of equipment that is expected to boost the operational capabilities of its units on the ground.

PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde yesterday witnessed the blessing of the equipment at Camp Crame. The purchase was bankrolled by appropriations from the Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) of 2014 to 2019 and from the General Appropriations Act of 2018.

The purchased equipment consists of 95 4x4 utility vehicles issued to police provincial and city offices, 10,000 9mm pistols and 568,226 bullets for newly recruited police officers, 78 5.56mm light machine guns, 3,684 enhanced combat helmets and 2,255 tactical vests for their  mobile forces.

The PNP also received two bullet-proof special weapons and tactics vehicles worth P11.9 million each, donated by the Bureau of Customs and earmarked for the national police headquarters and
the Cagayan Valley police.

Albayalde lauded President Duterte for earmarking more funds to upgrade the PNP’s capabilities.

“Our CEP before was P2 billion per year, now it’s at P4 billion,” he said.
