Worker dies in meat grinder mishap

Jennifer Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A worker died after half of his body was drawn into a meat grinder at a frozen food company in Barangay Mansaya in this city yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Joemar Jungco, 18.

Junco’s hand reportedly got stuck in the meat grinder, but half of his body had been dragged into the machine when his co-workers learned about the accident.

One of Junco’s co-workers said he tried to turn off the machine, but it was too late to save the victim.

Josielor Jaleco, owner of the company, said the victim had been working with her for only two weeks.

Junco could have tried to operate the machine on his own, according to his co-workers.

Cpl. Jeniffer Espora said investigation showed there was no foul play in Junco’s death.

“We asked his co-workers and the owner of the company and they claimed he was alone in the working area when the incident occurred,” Espora said.
