P459-M Isabela ‘mega’ bridge inaugurated

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) yesterday inaugurated the newly constructed P459-million Pigalo bridge in Isabela.

The DPWH said the 450-meter bridge, which traverses Cagayan River, would serve as a vital link between the towns of Angadanan and San Guillermo as well as other municipalities in Isabela.

The old bridge was destroyed by Typhoons Pedring and Quiel.

“This new mega bridge will provide direct access to residents in outlying barangays while at the same time ensuring safe and convenient travel for both locals and tourists,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.

Villar said the bridge would also ensure fast delivery of agricultural products from far-flung areas to commercial hubs in Cagayan Valley.

“With this bridge, travel time between Angadanan and San Guillermo will be shortened by 30 minutes, promoting faster and easier transport of goods and services,” he said.

The bridge was completed last March.

”We continued to improve the integrity of the structure due to the anticipated high volume of heavy vehicles expected to pass through the bridge on a daily basis,” Villar said.
