Probers eye love triangle in twin slays

Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Police investigators are looking into a love triangle as the motive behind the killing of a man and a woman in Port Area, Manila on Tuesday night.

Arnel Puno, 41, of Block 15-B, Baseco Compound, and Shirley Ebora, 35, of Sto. Cristo, Binondo, were on a motorcycle when two men ambushed them at the corner of Muelle Del Rio and Second streets at around 8:20 p.m.

Manila Police District Station 5 commander Lt. Colonel Igmedio Bernaldez said Puno and Ebora died at the scene from gunshots to the body.

Probers said they recovered six spent shells and two live bullets for a .45-caliber handgun.

Police said they were looking into the possibility that the killings were “personal in nature.”

Investigators have ruled out robbery as motive as the gunmen left Puno’s bag, which contained money and other valuables.

Authorities said Puno, who worked as a security guard, and Ebora, a vegetable dealer, were both married to their spouses.

Puno’s relatives were mum when asked about the reported affair between him and Ebora, according to Bernaldez.
