Junjun Binay to appeal CA ruling

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Former Makati mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr. will ask the Court of Appeals (CA) to reconsider its decision that barred him perpetually from holding public office.

In a post on his official Facebook page yesterday, Binay said he has consulted with his lawyers.

In a decision promulgated on May 28, the appellate court affirmed the Office of the Ombudsman’s order in 2017 that perpetually disqualified him to hold public office over irregularities in the construction of Phase VI of the P1.3-billion Makati Science High School (MSHS) building.

Binay said he would exhaust all legal remedies to prove his innocence.

“First, I am grateful that the Condonation Doctrine was applied in the various phases of the MSHS building. As to the last phase, we agreed to file a motion for reconsideration,” he said.

The CA found Binay guilty of dishonesty, grave misconduct and conduct prejudice to the best interest of the service.

Binay’s lawyer JM Mendoza said they have yet to receive a copy of the CA ruling.
