‘2 more years to complete Zamboanga rehab’
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — It will take two more years before the rehabilitation of villages destroyed when thic city was attacked in 2013 will be completed, according to the city’s housing chief.
The Zamboanga Roadmap to Reconstruction and Rehabilitation is only 80.61 percent, six years after Moro National Liberation Front fighters attacked the city, Rodrigo Pagotaisidro, city housing and urban planning chief, said.
The 23-day siege destroyed five coastal barangays and displaced around 120,000 people.
Pagotaisidro said 5,112 housing units – 1,439 built on land and 3,673 on stilts – were turned over and occupied by displaced families.
He said 417 housing units on land and 812 on stilts have yet to be completed.
Pagotaisidro said the completion of resettlement and rehabilitation projects include provision of power, water, sewer and footbridges.
At least P2.56 billion were released during the Aquino administration to rebuild and rehabilitate affected barangays.
