6 die as jeep falls off cliff in Albay
MANILA, Philippines — Six persons died while 18 others were injured when a jeep fell into a ravine in Libon, Albay yesterday afternoon.
Rolando Olade reportedly lost control of the wheel as the vehicle was traveling in Barangay San Jose at around 3 p.m., according to Albay police director Col. Wilson Asueta.
“The cliff was about 169 feet deep,” Asueta said in a text message to The STAR.
The names of the fatalities and injured passengers were not immediately available.
The jeep, which came from Barangay Pantao, was headed to Barangay Centro Poblacion. It had 30 persons on board.
The victims were brought to different hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, in Ilocos Norte, a man and his wife died after their tricycle collided with a truck in Pagudpud town on Monday.
Police said Esteban Malabo, 58, tried to overtake, causing the tricycle to hit the truck driven by Clarence Tagupa in Barangay Pancian.
Malabo and his wife Julieta were declared dead on arrvial at the Bangui District Hospital.
Tagupa surrendered to responding police officers. – Raymund Catindig
