Erap tops survey for mayor
MANILA, Philippines — A majority of voters in Manila preferred incumbent Mayor Joseph Estrada in the upcoming midterm elections, according to a survey released yesterday by Laylo Research Strategies.
The poll conducted from April 14 to 10 showed that Manileños are satisfied with the performance of Estrada and want him to continue his term for another three years.
The respondents cited the improvement in the delivery of basic services and lower crimes in the city under Estrada’s leadership.
Based on the survey, Estrada received 39 percent voter preference. His closest rival, former vice mayor Isko Moreno, garnered 30 percent voter preference.
Former mayor Alfredo Lim ranked third with 22 percent.
The research firm said if 750,000 registered voters troop to the polling precincts and cast their votes, Estrada, with nine to 11 percent margin against his rivals, would obtain a landslide victory of at least 75,000 votes.
The non-commissioned surveys of Laylo Research held in January and March also showed Estrada leading the mayoral race.
