Globe subscribers in rural areas to experience disruption
Richmond Mercurio (The Philippine Star) - April 4, 2019 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines — Globe subscribers in rural areas may experience service interruption starting this month as the network undertakes preventive maintenance.

Globe Telecom Inc. said it would conduct preventive maintenance until December as part of its efforts to improve equipment reliability in remote barangays across the country.

“We need to ensure the reliability of our... equipment to continue providing quality experience to our customers, especially in rural areas,” Gil Genio, Globe chief technology and information officer, said.

Genio said maintenance works, which would be conducted at daytime, cover tower stability check, including bolt tightening, parts replacement and installation as well as alignment, calibration and testing of antennae and outdoor systems.

Given the complexity of some activities, Globe said maintenance works might require a maximum of five hours a day.

“Selected areas where maintenance works are scheduled will experience temporary service interruption for 2G, 3G and LTE wireless services. Aside from customers of mobile services, Globe shall notify wireless broadband customers who will be affected via SMS or email prior to the scheduled maintenance activities,” it said.

The telco giant continues to invest in its network improvement programs to support increasing demand for data services.

Globe has earmarked P63 billion this year to address data traffic growth and support its increasing customer base with its ramped-up network modernization program.

The company saw its mobile data traffic rise by 59 percent or 956 petabytes last year, driven by more customers who stream videos on their smartphones and tablets.
