DICT ready to probe Jim Paredes’ leaked video
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said it is ready to investigate how the sex video of singer Jim Paredes was leaked on social media.
Speaking at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay media forum in Malate, Manila yesterday, DICT Secretary Eliseo Rio Jr. said those who uploaded and shared the video could be held liable under the cybercrime law.
“You cannot post a private video in a public platform. That is prohibited under the law,” Rio said.
DICT Assistant Secretary Allan Cabanlong, who heads the agency’s cyber security bureau, said they have yet to receive a formal complaint from Paredes.
Cabanlong said Paredes could also file a complaint with the Philippine National Police or the National Bureau of Investigation.
Paredes had apologized over his sex video, which went viral online.
He confirmed the authenticity of the video, but said it is private and not meant for public dissemination.
