MANILA, Philippines — The ban on processed meat products from seven countries remains in effect amid the threat of African swine fever, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said yesterday.

In an advisory, FDA chief Nela Charade Puno said meat imports from China, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine are temporarily banned.

Puno warned the public against purchasing and consuming processed pork products sourced from other countries and not registered with the FDA.

The agency issued the advisory based on the Department of Agriculture order banning the entry of pork and meat products from countries affected by African swine fever.

The FDA is conducting post-marketing surveillance to ensure compliance with the directive.

African swine fever is a highly contagious hemorrhagic viral disease of domestic and wild pigs, but is not a threat to humans.
