Comelec cancels Maribel Eusebio’s bid for Camarines Sur seat

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has canceled the certificate of candidacy (COC) of former Pasig City mayor Maribel Eusebio, who is running as representative of the Second District of Camarines Sur.

In a unanimous resolution, the Comelec’s First Division barred Eusebio from seeking the post because she is not a registered voter of the province.

Comelec Presiding Commissioner Al Parreño and Commissioners Rowena Amelia Guanzon and Marlon Casquejo approved the resolution.

In her COC filed last year, Eusebio claimed that she is eligible to seek the congressional seat of Camarines Sur.

The poll body said Eusebio lacks one of the qualifications to run for the position she is seeking: she is not a registered voter in the district she intends to represent in Congress.

The Comelec concurred with the resolution issued by the Camarines Sur Regional Trial Court, which denied Eusebio’s appeal to be included in the list of voters of Barangay Puro in Libmanan town.

“The  denial of  Eusebio’s  appeal to have her name included in the list of voters is final and executory given that no higher court had issued a ruling stopping the enforcement of its decision,” the Comelec said.

The poll body also upheld the Oct. 29, 2018  ruling of the Election Registration Board, excluding her from the voter list.

Eusebio is the sister of Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr. Her husband, Pasig Mayor Roberto Eusebio, is seeking reelection in the midterm elections.
