Ex- barangay captain, kagawad arrested for guns, explosives

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan, Philippines — A former barangay chairman and an incumbent village councilman were arrested for illegal possession of guns, explosives and ammunition in Isabela and Cagayan, respectively, yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Mariano Rodriguez, Isabela police director, said a 9mm pistol, a 12 gauge shotgun, two caliber .45 pistols and various types of ammunition were seized from the house of Demetrio Galvez, 61, former chairman of Barangay San Antonio in Roxas town.

A caliber .38 revolver, an improvised shotgun, a rocket grenade and ammunition were reportedly recovered from the house of Melvin Marantan, 43, councilman of Barangay San Juan in Lal-lo.

Police said the raids were based on search warrants issued by local courts.
