GMA to retire from politics

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Former president and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced on Friday that she is retiring from politics on June 30.

Arroyo made the announcement during her visit to the landless residents of Parola in Tondo where she distributed an initial of 80 Certificates of Land Awards to landless urban poor residents of Parola the other day.

She said she led the distribution of land to the residents of Parola to leave a good legacy.

The former president said she issued 118 presidential proclamations for the distribution of land to landless urban poor families during her presidency.

“But I was shocked to learn that none of you have received your own land titles. I am here to fulfill a dream and my housing programs for the poor. I am not running for any position and I am actually retiring from politics on June 30,” Arroyo said.

Arroyo said she can continue helping the people once she becomes private citizen Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
