MANILA, Philippines — Police are looking at work or love as possible angles in the ambush on a former Cebu City prosecutor late Thursday night.

The FREEMAN reported that former fiscal Mary Ann Castro was killed while she was driving along Escario St. in Barangay Kamputhaw in Cebu City.

Members of the police’s Scene of the Crime Operatives went to the ambush site to look into the incident.

According to the report, Chief Inspector Eduard Sanchez said that they are looking into “work, love angles” as motives in the killing of Castro.

An ABS-CBN report said that the former prosecutor had a gunshot in her neck. She was on her way home to Talisay City when the incident happened.

Castro received two suspension orders during her service as an assistant prosecutor.

The first suspension lasted six months and one day following the decision of the Supreme Court’s Second Division, on account of an Ombudsman case for conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.

She was also suspended from practicing law for another six months over an administrative case, over a complaint of alleged forum shopping in her annulment case against her husband.

Castro is the first member of the Bar killed in 2019.

There have been more than 30 lawyers, including prosecutors and trial court judges, were killed since the start of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.— Kristine Joy Patag with reports from The FREEMAN/Clydyl Avila, Joy Terrejoas and Rowena Capistrano
