Cop slain in Tacloban shooting

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Tacloban City yesterday morning.

Police Officer 2 Lawrence Tabungar was driving a motorcycle in front of the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Barangay 93 Bagacay when he was killed at past 9 a.m.

Tabungar died at the scene from gunshot wounds to the head and body, according to a witness who refused to be identified.

The assailants, who were in a pickup, sped away after the killing.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing and identify the assailants.
