MANILA, Philippines — Four persons, including a barangay captain, were shot dead in separate incidents in Pangasinan and Cavite in the past two days.

Nadie Secretario, chairman of Barangay Yakal in Silang, was supervising an activity in his community when he was shot at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Three civilians were wounded after they were hit by stray bullets.

Also in Cavite, businessman Emiliano Ilas was driving his Toyota Fortuner with his brother Arnolito when they were ambushed in Barangay Molino 3, Bacoor at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday.

Arnolito remains in critical condition at the South East Asia Medical Center, where Emiliano was pronounced dead on arrival.

In Pangasinan, Manny de Vera, 44, and Milton Requintin, 62, were driving their tricycles in Sitio Nansangaan, San Carlos City and Barangay Asan Sur, Sison, respectively, when they were shot by motorcycle-riding men.

Teacher stabbed to death

In Albay, a public school teacher was stabbed to death while sleeping in the principal’s office of the Oringon Elementary School in Pio Duran town on Tuesday night.

Mylene Durante, a resident of Barangay Alnay in Polangui, were with Grade 6 students Mechie Orbigo, 13, and Hazel dela Vega, 12, when an unidentified man entered the room and went on a stabbing spree.

Although wounded, the students managed to escape and hid in one of the classrooms. They were brought to the Pio Duran Memorial District Hospital for treatment.

Probers said Durante was allowed to spend the night in the principal’s  office because she missed the bus to Polangui. – Ed Amoroso, Eva Visperas, Celso Amo
