NAIA screener won’t pursue case vs Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III
MANILA, Philippines — The airport screener who was harassed by ACTS-OFW party-list Rep. Aniceto Bertiz III is no longer pursuing charges against the lawmaker.
Hamilton Abdul, 27, of the Office of Transportation Security, yesterday went to the office of OTS head executive assistant Napoleon Cuaton accompanied by his father.
Cuaton said Abdul would no longer file affidavits of complaint before the House of Representatives ethics committee and the Pasay City prosecutor’s office for “fear that Bertiz might get back at him.”
“That is his decision. We cannot force him to file charges, but I told him that the OTS is here if he needs assistance,” Cuaton said.
Bertiz was caught on video bullying Abdul after the lawmaker refused to remove his shoes during security check at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Sept. 29.
Bertiz drew flak from women’s groups after blaming his outburst to “menstrual cycles.”
The House ethics panel is looking into the incident.
