2 more Pasig barangays declared drug-free
MANILA, Philippines — Two more barangays in Pasig City were declared drug-free by the local government on Friday.
Barangays Dela Paz and Ugong were declared cleared of illegal drugs following certification by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the barangay anti-drug abuse council (BADAC).
This brought to 11 the number of drug-free barangays in Pasig.
Mayor Bobby Eusebio, National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Eleazar and Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Bernabe Balba attended the event at the city hall.
According to Eleazar, only four percent of the more than 1,000 barangays in Metro Manila are drug-free.
He said only 30 barangays in the metropolis have been cleared of illegal drugs. Of the number, Eleazar said 11 villages are in Pasig.
Eleazar lauded Eusebio, Balba and other city officials for the accomplishment.
Eusebio handed over P500,000 each to Barangays dela Paz and Ugong for their anti-drug campaign.
A barangay can be declared drug-free following a certification from the barangay or city anti-drug council. The certification will then be validated by the city police chief, PDEA and BADAC.
A barangay must be cleared of any drug activity for 30 days before it can be declared drug-free.
