Bongbong Marcos pays P50,000 fine imposed by PET
MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has paid the P50,000 fine imposed by the Supreme Court (SC), sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), for issuing public statements on the ongoing recount of votes in his election protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.
Marcos complied with the order issued by the PET in June for violating the sub judice rule, which prohibits parties from discussing a pending case in public.
The PET imposed the same penalty on Robredo.
Marcos has informed the SC of his compliance with the ruling in a manifestation.
On June 26, the PET ordered the camps of Marcos and Robredo to pay a fine of P50,000 each for violating the gag order issued in February.
The PET noted that despite the order, news reports have shown that both parties continued to disclose information to the public regarding the recount of votes for the presidential race in the last elections.
