MANILA, Philippines — The rehabilitation of the Boracay circumferential road is expected to be finished in time for the opening of the island to tourists in October, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said yesterday.

Villar along with Jose Al Fruto, DPWH-Western Visayas director, recently visited Boracay to check on the progress of rehabilitation works.

“We have started pouring concrete and the installation of pipes along Cagban up to Elizalde compound... We are almost 40 percent complete,” Villar said.

He said the construction of the gap from Barangay Manoc-Manoc to Barangay Yapak is also on track.

“(It is) 60 percent complete. The construction of the missing gap along the circumferential road will facilitate travel around the famous Puka Beach,” Villar said.

The DPWH is also constructing a 204-meter reinforced concrete pipe culvert to improve the drainage system as well as a road network along Bulabog Beach.

“We have identified the Bulabog Beach road network as an alternate route while the main road is being rehabilitated. It shall also serve as a logistics corridor wherein goods can be transported to and from Boracay, “ Villar said.
