ILOILO CITY, Philippines  —  A soldier was  gunned down by his fellow soldier at the 61st Infantry Battalion (IB) headquarters in Barangay Lagdungan, Tapaz, Capiz yesterday, police said.

Private First Class Sarjie Labao reportedly shot Pfc. Delio Sebarillo at around 4 a.m. as the victim was about to replace the suspect for the morning shift.

Sebarillo was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tapaz District Hospital.

Labao turned over his 9mm pistol and a rifle to his superior following the incident.

Saying there was no apparent motive for Labao to kill Sebarillo, Lt. Col. Sisenando Magbalot, 61st IB commander, said they would check Labao’s medical records to determine if he was suffering from mental illness.
