LPA near Batanes develops into Tropical Depression Florita
MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area east of Basco, Batanes has developed into a tropical depression and was assigned the name "Florita," PAGASA said Friday.
In its first severe weather bulletin for "Florita" issued at 5 a.m. on Friday, the state weather bureau said that an estimated moderate to heavy rainfall amount is expected within the tropical depression's 300 km diameter.
At 4 a.m. today, the center of "Florita" was estimated based on all available data at 945 km east of Basco, Batanes.
It packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph. It moves at a northwest direction at 11 kph.
The tropical depression is not expected to make landfall but PAGASA said it will enhance the "habagat" or southwest monsoon which will bring occasional rains over the extreme northern Luzon area this weekend.
