Fires hit Palace building, Malabon slum

MANILA, Philippines — Fires of still undetermined origin broke out at a building in Malacañang and at a shantytown in Malabon yesterday amid heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Domeng.

The fire started at the storage room of the Assets Management Office, formerly known as the Property and Procurement Office, at around 2:12 p.m. and reached first alarm, the Manila Fire District said.

The fire was declared under control at around 2:36 p.m. No one was injured in the incident and arson probers are trying to determine the damage as of press time.

Meanwhile, more than 10 houses were destroyed after a fire broke out at a residential area in Barangay Longos, Malabon.

The fire started at one of the shanties in Pinagsabugan at around 1:20 p.m. and quickly spread to neighboring shanties.

No one was reported injured in the fire, which reached third alarm before it was put under control before 4 p.m.
