Marawi veteran assumes Manila Police District post

MANILA, Philippines — A Marawi veteran assumed command yesterday of the 3,500-strong Manila Police District (MPD).

Chief Superintendent Rolando Anduyan of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao replaced Chief Superintendent Joel Coronel as MPD director.

Anduyan was cited for his rescue of a priest captured by the Islamic State-inspired Maute terrorist group during the Marawi siege last year.

The new MPD chief vowed to boost the campaign against criminals and illegal drugs.

Anduyan was among the police officers who were promoted in line with the revamp implemented by the Philippine National Police recently.

Coronel was named deputy director for administration of the National Capital Regional Police Office.
