BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The New People’s Army (NPA) appears to be stepping up its attacks on Negros Island after the group admitted it was behind the execution of two alleged military informants in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

JB Regalado, spokesman for the NPA Leonardo Panaligan Command based in central Negros, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the murder of Dominador Quilanan and his brother Nelson in Barangay Budlasan on March 7.

Regalado accused the Quilanans of helping the military and tagged them in the murder of their cousin, German Quilanan, and a certain Rodolfo Villasan in 2015.

The NPA seized a radio handset from Dominador, which he allegedly used in contacting the military.

Two weeks ago, the same NPA group claimed  responsibility for burning a truck in Canlaon City and a tractor in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

The group said the owners of the equipment refused to pay “revolutionary taxes.”

Regalado said the Quilanan brothers ignored the NPA warning for them to change their ways, and instead opted to become military agents.

The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division condemned the attacks, saying the rebels are known for spreading false information and lying.
