MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways on Tuesday said the area where the deadly collision in Agoo, La Union occurred is now free from any hazard.

DPWH Assistant District Engineer Raul Gali said there are no more obstructions or hazards of any ongoing projects may disturb the flow of vehicular traffic and distract the attention of drivers passing by the road, Barangay San Jose Sur, Agoo, La Union. This is the road where a deadly accident took place on Monday.

A bus operated by Partas and a private jeepney bumped head-on on Christmas day. The accident resulted in 20 deaths and 26 injuries.

The initial police investigation showed that the private jeepney was carrying 29 passengers while the bus was carrying 31 individuals.

The passengers of the private jeepney were supposed to visit Our Lady of Manaoag Church in Pangasinan and was about to overtake another vehicle when it collided into the Partas bus.

Gali said there was a “slowdown” on traffic last Monday since the DPWH installed "reflectorized" Chevron signage and lighting to safeguard the motorists.

“At the time of collision between a southbound jeepney and a northbound Partas bus, the said road section is completely provided with road safety devices such as double yellow lanes, edge lines and rumbling strips,” Gali said.

Bus company Partas now face suspension of seven of its unit after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it would issue a 30-day preventive suspension against it over the deadly crash.
