Vinta maintains strength while moving toward southern Palawan

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical storm “Vinta” maintained its strength as it moves toward southern Palawan, the state weather bureau reported Saturday.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration spotted the center of Vinta at 245 km west northwest of Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur as of 10:00 a.m.

With maximum sustained winds of 80 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 95 kph, scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail over Palawan.

It is expected to o move west at 20 kph and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility “between” Sunday morning and afternoon.

Meanwhile, scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains is expected over Bicol region, Visayas, Mindanao, and the rest of MIMAROPA within 24 hours.

Sea travel also remains risky over the seaboards of areas under public storm signal warnings.

“Residents of these areas must take appropriate actions against flooding and landslides, coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates,” PAGASA said.

Storm signal warning no. 2 has been issued over southern Palawan while the rest of the province was placed under signal no. 1.
