SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, Bulacan, Philippines – The results of forensic tests on evidence gathered from the house of five members of a family slain in this city on June 27 were released yesterday.

In a text message to The STAR, Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino, Central Luzon police director, said he has a copy of the results, but did not give details.

Aquino said they would release the results at a press conference today.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa tasked Aquino to lead the investigation into the killing of Auring Dizon, 58; her daughter Estrella Carlos, 35, and Carlos’ children Donny, 11; Ella, 7, and Dexter Jr., 1.

The principal suspect in the killings, Carmelino Ibañes is being held at the San Jose del Monte jail. He admitted the crime, but later retracted his statement, saying he was tortured into making a confession.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Fitz Macariola, city police chief, assured the public that they followed the proper procedure in the investigation into the massacre.

Macariola disputed the claim of some anti-crime groups that they left out the father of the victim, Dexter Sr., in the probe.

He said they took the statement of Dexter Sr. and asked him about possible suspects, including a brief on his work and their neighbors.

“We have to shift priorities in asking him other questions and concentrate on possible individuals that may have knowledge of the crime,” Macariola said.
