MANILA, Philippines - Emmanuel “Manny” Galvez, a correspondent for The STAR, died of a stroke on his 48th birthday on Tuesday at the Quezon City General Hospital.

Galvez was taken to the hospital on May 8 after he suffered a seizure, but his family said he was not able to undergo a CT scan because the machine was broken.

Galvez covered Nueva Ecija and Aurora for The STAR since 1991. He was former president of the Nueva Ecija Press Club Inc. and deacon at the Holy Place Pentecost Church Tabernacle Inc.

He is survived by his father Simeon and siblings Eduardo, Encarnita, Eleanor and Enrico.

“We are deeply saddened by the early demise of our loved one Manny...But we have joy in our hearts as we know his soul will now rest in peace,” his family said in a text message.

His remains lie at the Ilagan chapel in Cabanatuan City. Interment is on May 23 at the Sagrada Familia in Kapitan Pepe subdivision.
