Lani Mercado ‘kills’ Imelda on Twitter
MANILA, Philippines - Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla of Bacoor, Cavite mistakenly announced the death of Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos on social media on Sunday night.
“Our condolences to the Marcos family. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with Cong. Imelda Romualdez-Marcos,” Revilla, former representative of Bacoor and wife of detained former senator Ramon Revilla Jr., posted on Twitter.
Revilla issued an apology yesterday morning.
“I would like to apologize for my tweet, which I have deleted. I received a message informing the public about Mrs. Marcos,” she said.
The tweet about the death of Marcos was screen captured by netizens and reposted on social media.
The Marcos family issued a statement, saying the 87-year-old congresswoman is alive.
“I’m just old but I’m still alive,” Marcos told reporters.
