Cop nabbed for extortion

MANILA, Philippines -  A police officer was arrested after he allegedly extorted P5,000 from a woman in exchange for a sex video in Marikina City before dawn yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Gomercindo Digma was nabbed in an entrapment operation along J.P. Rizal street at around 1 a.m., Senior Superintendent Chiquito Malayo, Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) chief, said.

Malayo said Digma was caught in the act of receiving the marked money from the complainant.

Digma, a member of the San Mateo police in Rizal, allegedly demanded the money from the woman in exchange for her sex video.

Malayo said Digma obtained the video from the mobile phone of the woman’s partner, whom the policeman had previously arrested for reckless driving. 

Digma is being held at the CITF detention facility on charges of robbery and extortion.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa had activated the CITF to go after policemen involved in extortion and other illegal activities.
