Cop probed for beating up street sweeper
MANILA, Philippines – A police officer is under investigation for reportedly beating up a street sweeper in Sta. Ana, Manila on Sunday night.
Evar Payobyob filed a complaint against Police Officer 2 Vince Conching with the Manila Police District (MPD) general assignment and investigation section on Tuesday.
Payobyob said Conching was drinking with three other men at the corner of Cagayan and Mayon streets when he passed by.
“He called me and asked me when was the last time I took shabu,” Payobyob told The STAR.
When Payobyob denied he was using drugs, Conching, who is detailed at the MPD Station 11, allegedly beat him up.
The street sweeper, who was accompanied by barangay officials when he filed the complaint, said the beating stopped only when one of Conching’s companions intervened and told him to run.
Senior Police Officer 3 James Poso said Conching has been asked to answer the charges against him.
MPD Station 11 commander Superintendent Amante Daro said he has ordered an investigation of the incident.
