Ex-Samar mayor charged with nepotism
MANILA, Philippines – A former municipal mayor in Northern Samar has been charged for appointing his sister as a member of the local water district’s board of directors.
Former Gamay town mayor Timoteo Capoquian was charged along with his brother in-law Enrique Gomba, who was his vice mayor.
The Office of the Ombudsman said Capoquian appointed his sister, who is Gomba’s wife, as a member of the board of the Gamay Water District in 2008.
The ombudsman said Capoquian and Gomba used their positions to make the appointment, which violated the Revised Administrative Code of 1987.
The law prohibits government officials from appointing a relative within the third degree of affinity or consanguinity to any public office.
The case against the respondents has been raffled to the Sandiganbayan First Division.
