Campaign coordinator shot dead

BACNOTAN, La Union, Philippines – Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot dead a coordinator of a candidate for mayor in Barangay Casiaman here on Monday night.

Jimmy Salazar, 50, was sitting near a convenience store around 8 p.m. when he was shot, said Senior Inspector Fredilex Marron, Bacnotan police chief.

Marron said Salazar was hit in the head and body and died at the scene.

Responding policemen recovered bullet shells for a .45 caliber pistol.

Probers are looking into politics as the motive for the attack.
