Red tide alert up in Negros

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – The coastal waters in E.B. Magalona town and the cities of Victorias and Cadiz were found positive for the algae that produces the red tide toxin.

Acting Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya said tests conducted by the provincial marine bio-toxin testing center from Dec. 14 to 17 showed a progressive increase in algal population.

“The public is strongly advised to refrain from eating all types of shellfish… gathered from the coastal waters until further notification,” Gasataya said.
